When it comes to traditional seaside holidays the string of resorts running all the way down the Somerset coast has everything you need. Weston-super-Mare is the biggest, and also one of the oldest. There are cafes, pubs and restaurants where you can sit outside and watch the world go by. If that hasn’t worn you out, the nightlife’s pretty energetic, and there are any number of events and exhibitions throughout the summer.
Grand Pier
Right in the heart of Weston and its beach lies Weston’s Grand Pier. Although ravaged by fire in 2008 the completely rebuilt and modernised pier is now fully open and is undoubtedly a world class attraction.
Weston-super-Mare Bay
The wonderful sweep of Weston Bay, with views over to Wales and down to Exmoor, is a never ending source of satisfaction. Miles of broad, flat sandy beach are perfect for all sorts of activities.
Weston Helicopter Museum
The Helicopter Museum is the only collection of its type in the country. Over 70 aircraft are on display including the current world speed record holder and a selection of unusual gyrocopters. Highlights on the museum’s event calendar include it’s monthly ‘Open Cockpit Days’ where visitors can take the pilots seat in one of the museum’s many aircraft and be shown the controls by an experienced guide. The museum also hosts regular Helicopter Experience Flights along the local coastline to view Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding countryside from a unique new angle.
